Abstract

A study was conducted to determine the combined influence of different levels of applied Nand P on biomass production, nutrient content and their uptake in Bauhinia variegata Linn. Seedlings during nursery stage. Seedlings were grown in polybags for 160 days in 12 nutrient combinations comprising all possible combinations of 4 levels of N ( 0, 30, 60, 90 kg ha^-1) and three levels of phosphorus (0, 40 and 80 kg ha^-1). The N application significantly increased biomass in all parts of the plant and it was maximum at 60 kg N ha^-1. The application of phosphorus showed significant effect on leaf and total biomass. The application of 60 kg N ha^-1 and 40 kg P ha^-1 resulted in the maximum amount of nutrient uptake and biomass yield.

Abstract

A new species of Phaeotrichoconis, P. urariac Bharadwaj is described. The fungus infects the leaves and pods of Uraria picta Desv. in the Ayurvedic garden, Banaras Hindu University. The fungus is cormpared with the type of P. crotalariac (Salam ⊄ Rao) Subrarnanian from which it differs in measurements of conidia, conidiophores, sclerotia and other characters. Finally it infects totally different host.

Abstract

A new species of Curvularia Boedijn, C. desmodii sp. nov. is described. The fungus infects the leaves of Desmodium gangeticum DC. and Uraria picta Desv. causing serious leaf spot disease in the Banaras Hindu University (B.H.U.) campus. The fungus is compared with the species of Curvularia^1-4 incorporated in the lunata group, specially with C. trifolii from which it differs in measurements and colour of conidia, branched conidiophores, presence of prominent hilum at the base of conidia and formation of chlamydospores in hyphae.
